``` ACMEMAIL(1) ACMEMAIL(1) NAME Mail - view mail in acme SYNOPSIS Mail [ -OsT ] [ -m maildir ] [ -f format ] [ -o outbox ] DESCRIPTION Mail edits a mailbox in an acme(1) environment. The default mailbox is /mail/fs/mbox. Mail shows 3 views: The list view, the message view, and the composition view. At startup, Mail takes the following options: -T Disable threading -O Disable writing to outbox -s Accept sendmail plumb messages. By default, only the Mail instance viewing /mail/fs/mbox will accept plumb messages. -m maildir Open the maildir maildir instead of the default -f format Define the format of individual messages in the list view (see "Format strings" below). -o outbox Save a copy of outgoing messages to the mailbox outbox, instead of discarding them after they're enqueued. Mail presents an acme interface for a upas/fs mailbox. When started, a mailbox, by default /mail/fs/mbox, is presented. In the message list, the tag bar commands typically affect the selected message. In the message and composition views, they typically apply to the current message. The following text commands are recognized by the message list: Put Flush pending changes back to upasfs(4). Delmesg, Undelmesg Flags a message for deletion on the next Put invoca- tion. Next Select the next unread message in the mailbox. Mark [±flags] Add or remove message flags. The flags recognized are listed in upasfs(4) Filter [filter] [*flags] Shows only messages where the sender or subject match the filter regexp, or where the flags string matches the state of the message. The flags used are the same as for Mark, with the addition of u to represent unread messages. Filter without an argument resets the filtering, showing all messages again. Redraw Redraws the contents of the mailbox. The following text commands are recognized by the message view: Reply [all] Replies to a message, quoting it. If all is specified, reply to all addresses on the message. Delmesg, Undelmesg As with the message view, but applied to the open mes- sage. Mark As with the message view, but applied to the open mes- sage. The following text commands are recognized by the composi- tion window: Post Sends the message currently being composed. Format strings The formatting of messages in the list view is controlled by the format string defined through the -f flag. The format string is composed of multiple directives: plain characters, which are displayed unchanged; indentation directives, which allows spacing based on thread depth; and messages direc- tives, which display message fields. Directives have the following format: % [flags] [width] verb width limits the number of characters displayed. If width is negative, text is aligned right instead of left. The supported flags are: > Insert indentation into the start of the field. This does not increase the width of the field. Messages directives are: s Subject f From field F From field including sender's name t To field c Cc field r Reply-to field Indentation directives are: i Adds spacing depending on message depth in thread but limited to a single level. If width is not specified, adds a tabulation otherwise width specifies the number of spaces to display. I Similar to i but not limited to a single level. Two special directives are also available: [...] Text within the brackets is displayed if the message is not the toplevel message of a thread. {...} Text within the braces is used as the format string for tmfmt(2). MAIL(1) MAIL(1) NAME mail, go.fishing - mail and mailboxes SYNOPSIS mail [ arg ... ] go.fishing DESCRIPTION Mail is a shell script that invokes nedmail(1), the mail reader, when no recipients appear on the command line and marshal(1), the mail preparer, otherwise. All command line options are passed through. See the man pages for those two commands for more details. Incoming mail for a user username is put in the file /mail/box/username/mbox unless either the file /mail/box/username/forward or /mail/box/username/pipeto exists. The mailbox must have append-only and exclusive- access mode (see chmod(1)). A user must create his or her own mailbox using the -c option of nedmail(1). Mailboxes are created writable (append-only) but not readable by others. If the file /mail/box/username/forward exists and is read- able by everyone, incoming mail will be forwarded to the addresses contained in the first line of the file. The file may contain multiple addresses. Forwarding loops are caught and resolved by local delivery. If the file /mail/box/username/pipeto exists and is readable and executable by everyone, it will be run for each incoming message for the user. The message will be piped to it rather than appended to his/her mail box. The file is run as user none. Its two arguments are the destination address (e.g., local!gremlin) and the user's mail box path (e.g., /mail/box/gremlin/mbox) Auto-answer To use mail as an answering machine while you are away, run go.fishing, which will create /mail/box/$user/gone.fishing as a flag for pipeto processing, and truncate /mail/box/$user/gone.addrs. Any existing pipeto file that uses /mail/lib/pipeto.lib will invoke the gone.fishing machinery when it calls spool or spool-tagged-spam. If /mail/box/$user/gone.msg exists, it will be sent (just once) to everyone who sends you mail that lists your address in a `To' or `Cc' header; if not, /mail/lib/gone.msg will be sent. Upon your return, remove /mail/box/$user/gone.fishing to stop automatic responses.
